POWER OVER ETHERNET (PoE) -
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a standard that allows electrical power, along with data, to power devices over Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable in an Ethernet network. This technology is in great demand now due to the market for IP telephones, IP security cameras, wireless LAN access points, and other appliances. It avoids the expense of new mains wiring that must be installed by licensed electricians or is used when it is impractical for devices to receive power separately. The technology is somewhat comparable to standard analog voice telephones, which also receive power and data through the same cable. PoE can work within most all currently installed Ethernet cabling infrastructure.
