What's special about this locator?
The XT512 operates in "sonde" mode, but it can also operate in "passive" mode of 50-60Hz in order to find underground energized electric lines. Sonde mode refers to the operation when the receiver searches for a signal transmitted by a small sonde (or camera with a built-in transmitter) that has been sent into a pipe. The sonde has to give off, or emit, a 512 Hz, un-modulated signal to be able to be detected by the receiver. When operating in the passive mode, the receiver searches for 60 or 50 Hz signals, which is commonly seen in power lines or other electrical cables underground. The receiver can also determine the approximate depth of the target.
