The Black Box Fiber Fault Finder is easy to use. You just need to insert the ferrule of the fiber optic connector into the “quick connect“ port of the Fault Finder and rotate the Fault Finder switch to either continuous-wave (CW) or blink modes. The Continuous-wave output mode provides steady fault illumination, while the blink output mode increases viewing contrast for well-lit areas.

The Fault Finder sends a red laser beam through the fiber and any interruption of continuity, caused by a break or by the cable being bent excessively, will be indicated by red light escaping through the jacket. You can also use this fault finder to identify faults in ceramic ferrules. A fiber break inside or past the ferrule or a bad end-face polish will result in a glowing ferrule.

The compact design and included nylon carrying case make it easy to use and transport as well as provide some protection from drops. In addition to I this the it’s constructed of durable waterproof aluminum to ensure that this fault finder stands the test of time.
The provided dust cap allows you to keep dust and particles off of the ferrule to avoid contamination of connectors during testing. Furthermore, it can operate for more than 48 hours using the two included AA batteries.

The ST Adapter Fiber-probe uses a bayonet locking system and is the most common type of adapter. The SC Adapter Fiber-probe features a molded body and push-pull locking system. Lastly, the FC Adapter Fiber-probe is a threaded connector used in high-vibration environments.
